Sequence 4

Come see the exciting play Family Matters.  The story of a teenager girl and the struggles she deals with.  Her overbearing parents and the problems of being a teenager.

In Class

I expect to see something very intriguing from the movie with the main actors in it.  Maybe an action thing or just something simple as long as they show the actors because sometimes that will determine if I want to see the movie or not.  Well the play is about her parents being helicopter parents and just being way too overbearing.  So I would maybe have something showing how her dad is making her feel horrible and possibly him yelling at her and maybe the girl crying.  Maybe add in something with a piano and how she doesn’t really like to play it how she would rather play soccer.

Life Takes Visa

Explicit Metaphor:  Life is a store.

Tenor:  Life

Vehicle:  Store

Associative Realm:  In a mall, in the city, places where a lot of people are

Vehicle Association:  buying things, clothing, jewelry, food, style, fads, money, bags with stuff in them, malls

Meanings Highlighted:  That you need Visa to be able to live and have all the life necessities

Meanings Masked:  That a credit card could get you into debt or you might not really have the money for it or some places might not accept credit card or visa

Dangerous Analogies:  Maybe cheap momento that your saying people are shallow in a way and that they don’t really have good priorities and that maybe the person needs credit card because they don’t have the cash

Thought Entry 14

I think something where there could be a main character who has to work through some hardships to be successful in life.  Maybe just some kind of inspirational story that would show our topic and how there are other ways to be successful even if you are not the most gifted or don’t have the most talent in this or that.  I think in all something that would be uplifting or something of that sort would be a good play scenario.

Thought Entry 12

I think a good thought entry topic is something inspiring.  I think my Sequence 2 paper would actually have been a pretty good play topic.  It was about a man in the depression and himself picking himself working hard every day and sticking with it and eventually getting himself out of it.  So if I had to write a play I think I would pick a topic that is more uplifting than something that is a downer and that would leave the audience in more of a depressed mood rather than something that they walk out in a good mood and inspired or just happy with the ending.

I think he would listen to rather gloomy music when he was younger.  More sad type of music that is not very optimistic and would make him seem like more of an outcast.  As he grows up and he meets Treves and begins to meet other people and see other things that many other more normal people see I think he would start to listen to music that is more optimistic so to say or just more uplifting than the music he would listen to when he was younger that was not very uplifting whatsoever I would believe.  Music that makes him feel like more of a part of society as he gets older.

What Did I Learn

Well all the pictures and everything showed from the group that did the structure showed me how amazing of a place it was.  It was a historical landmark due to its incredible structure and lavishly built interior.  I also learned about the significance of the culture and how it was more of a place to go for wealthy people.  It isn’t a surprise because to be honest that is still somewhat what it is like today I feel like people with a lot of money or people who just absolutely love opera music are the people that will go see the opera.  The attire was also something that I learned how it was normal for the more “high society” to where very extravagant dresses and for the men to wear their top hats.  The larger and more area the dress consumed seemed to be the nicest dress you could find  I think.  Napolean III also had a very large part do with this building.  He was the one who made most of the calls and was the one who had the building built in the long run.

Thought Entry 9

This reading is very similar to the Phantom of the Opera because the main character is very similar.  He lives in a very isolated place in Petersburg and doesn’t show much.  He talks about how he had taken so much ridicule among other things that he couldn’t take it anymore and live among these other people.  He compared it to being a mouse.  But then he talks about things that aren’t very pleasurable like a toothache and talks about how he gets satisfaction from these things.  He is similar to the Phantom in that sense in that he gets pleasure out of strange things like that.  And he talks about retaliating to the people that have been making his life like this and how he couldn’t do it.  That is similar and not like the Phantom both.  Because the phantom doesn’t necessarily do anything that he physically takes initiative it is more of just the others being frightened of his being.  But he does take some initiative and to frighten some people at the same time which this man in Notes From Underground does not.

Thought Entry 8

I thought it was a pretty good ending.  Erik realizing that he and Christine couldn’t be happy together was a good ending in my eyes.  I don’t think that would’ve been possible for a man with a deformed face like that and never wanting to be seen and then him and the damage he has done and the reputation he has built up it would have never have worked.  Raoul was the best choice for Christine and that is what happened.  I think I wish they would have been a little more specific as to where they went and what Raoul and Christines relationship was like after they went off together.  Because we know they love each other but we don’t know how it is like for her without the phantom and how much she really loves Raoul.

If I would argue with one character from the book it would be Raoul.  I would argue with him about his obsession with Christine and that he needs to let her go.  He needs to understand that she doesn’t love him and that he should stop following her around and doing all the almost stalker type things he does.  He is an interesting character that I think needs someone to tell him that he is going a little to far as he continues to follow Christine many places.  I know there was a letter that told him to meet her at the inn but then the things he did there were very strange.  For him to follow her out the window is a little too much and he needs to be talked to about his obsession and that she doesn’t love him.
